Since I spend a lot of time on long, meditative beach walks with my camera, it stands to reason that I also enjoy walking around the marinas near the beach, searching for interesting photo opportunities. I look at the various yachts and other sailboats, with tall masts or low prows reflecting in the water, and can’t help but think that each potential image of these moored vessels that I see has been made before.

I started looking at the marina with my minimalist eye, and found that the details of the pristine yachts were far more interesting to me than the full views of the moored vessels. As I looked closer at the marina, I noticed other details as well, such as how some people wound the lines tethering their vessels to the dock into tight, neat coils, while others appeared to have thrown their lines, and caution, to the wind.

It may or may not be obvious to you what you think you see in these details, which is my intent – welcome to Mystic Marina.
